What is a Ceramic Coating?
At its core, a ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to the exterior surfaces of your vehicle. Comprising silicon dioxide or silica, this transparent layer chemically bonds with the factory paint, creating a durable shield against external elements. Similar to a wax in the ways it offers protection, however; where a traditional wax coating offers months of protection, ceramic coatings usually last 3-5 years.
Benefits of Ceramic Coating: A Shield of Excellence
- Unmatched Protection: Shielding your vehicle from UV rays, oxidation, bird droppings, tree sap, water spots, and harsh weather conditions, ceramic coatings act as an invisible armor, preserving your car's aesthetic appeal.
- Enhanced Durability: Unlike traditional waxes and sealants, ceramic coatings provide long-lasting protection, often lasting years. This reduces the frequency of detailing and maintenance, saving you time and effort.
- Hydrophobic Properties: The hydrophobic nature of ceramic coatings repels water and contaminants, ensuring that dirt and grime slide off effortlessly. This characteristic not only keeps your car cleaner for longer but also makes it easier to clean during regular maintenance. No need to use aggressive chemicals like tar removers if you drive on new road construction during your work commute, just soap and water will do.
- Intensified Gloss and Shine: Say goodbye to dull finishes. Ceramic coatings amplify your vehicle's gloss and saturation, adding to the shine of your vehicle’s clear coat.
The Application Process: Precision and Expertise
The application of a ceramic coating is a meticulous process that requires expertise. Here's an overview of the steps involved:
- Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean and decontaminate the vehicle's exterior, ensuring the removal of dirt, wax, and impurities that might hinder the bonding process. We do this with an intensive pre-wash stage followed by a hand wash. After this, chemical decontamination is performed with iron fallout and water spot removers to remove as much fallout as possible before physical decontamination steps are taken. The next step is claying the car, which involves a clay material that has a grippy, high friction texture to grab any impurities embedded in the paint not removed from the wash process.
- Paint Correction: In most cases, a paint correction is performed to address existing imperfections and enhance the clarity of the paint before applying the ceramic coating. Since ceramic coatings are a semi-permanent coating, we want to ensure the paint is as perfect as possible before applying a coating. We do this by testing pads and polishes to figure out which combination works best for your paint to remove the most defects. Rather than using the most aggressive pad and polish, we spend the extra time to figure out what combination best improves your paint in the least aggressive way possible. We are in the business of preserving paint, not removing it…
- Application of Ceramic Coating: First the vehicle is pressed with an isopropyl alcohol solution. Next, using specialized applicators, the ceramic coating is evenly applied to the vehicle's surfaces. The coating then chemically bonds with the factory paint, creating a strong and durable layer.
- Curing: The coated vehicle is left to cure, allowing the ceramic coating to form a robust bond with the paint surface. It takes 24-48 hours for the coating to cure before you can receive your vehicle back to ensure the coating lasts for years to come. Although ceramic coatings are the most durable paint protection product out there, they are most vulnerable the first two weeks after a vehicle is coated, which is why we apply a top sealant to act as a sacrificial layer for the coating during this time period.

Aftercare: Preserving the Brilliance
Ensuring the longevity of the ceramic coating involves proper aftercare:
- Avoid Abrasive Washes: Use gentle car washing techniques to prevent scratching or damaging the coating. We don’t recommend using automatic car washes. Period. Ever. But especially after a car is coated.
- Regular Maintenance: Although ceramic coatings reduce the need for frequent detailing, regular maintenance, such as washing and occasional top-ups, is essential to preserve the coating's effectiveness.
- Professional Inspection: Periodic inspections by automotive detailing professionals can identify any issues and address them promptly, ensuring the continued efficacy of the ceramic coating. Every customer is given the opportunity to do a reduced-rate walk-through detail after their vehicle is coated to learn the products and methods to best take care of their newly coated vehicle. You also have the opportunity to let us perform your maintenance washes for you, as we offer routine detailing schedules for our clients.
